March 8, 2008:
RSS feeds
For a long long time now, I’ve been visiting GoMotoring more than once a day, to get a quick peek at what’s happening in the MINI world … GoMotoring tracks basically EVERY USA MINI related website, including the major forums such as NorthAmericanMotoring and MINI2, but also the less active but often as interesting personal weblogs (including both GBMINI and GPMINI, thanks Mark!)

Recently, MotoringFile has resurrected their own RSS reader, in the name of NewsRoom:

It does load faster, but I don’t find it as useful for my purposes of keeping an eye on ALL the MINI feeds that I’m interested in. For example, the MINI2 feed is of news, not forum posts! And only a few of the less popular weblogs are included (George’s JCWGP and Josh’s site are both missing) … I think the “general automotive” feeds section lower down would be useful for some, but I have enough trouble just with all the MINI activity
I’ve been told that I should set up my own RSS reader, then I could make it work my way … well, I tried Google Reader, but the “extracts” are too long so there’s not enough info on one screen, while at the same time there’s only a couple of links from each feed - not helpful for the forum feeds:

So I’m hoping that GoMotoring sticks around, so I can continue to get my fix of MINI activity in an easily digestible format ![]()

Ian: I’m totally with you. I find Gomotoring to be an excellent site and it has been my homepage for a couple of years now. I hope it continues.

My store TwistyBitz has been an advertiser, no longer, and my blog TwistyBlitz has been on GoMotoring for I think a few years now. In the beginning it was the only place where anyone knew of me. A few blogs like GBMINI & MURMINI have a link to me but other than that nada. I’m now listed on MF’s New Room. I like the fact that Gabe’s News Room is associated with MotoringFile as they are one of the top MINI websites as well as one of the best designed.
On my blog I have 10 MINI blogs listed. I think it’s kool to do this as sort of a MINI fellowship thing. But GoMotoring and now NewsRoom are even better as a place to see what’s happening and what fellow MINI owners are thinking.
BTW: It would be nice if the “News Room” would get all the links to my blog working and updated as most aren’t, I guess beggars can’t be choosy. At GoMotoring my stories are always updated and working properly.
According to Mark’s blog, “Life and Times of Twister”, he has sold GoMotoring.
I hope the new owners are as conscience as Mark was about keeping the thing running and running up to date. Thanx Mark for the great Website, I hope you have nothing but green lights and lotsa twisties ahead of you.
I had plans to do some more advertising on GoMotoring in the coming year. Mark’s rates were very reasonable so I will be interested to find out how that will or will not change. My other advertising venue was at NAM. They also have been sold and I wonder how that will work out as I also had plans to again advertise there this year.

I still use Safari’s excellent chronological listing of mixed RSS feeds for mini blogs, as I detailed here a long time ago. There are still very few news readers that can do that simple function.

Very true Josh. I have used it as I’m a Mac kinda guy. I use, some say sadly, iWeb for both my store and blog.
I have dropped many a MINI blog for lack of updates or lack of response when I post a question or comment. To each his own but…. I feel if I post at a website at least have the courtesy to respond or tell me to go pound sand, something.
