703 Clubmans

Sales figures for February 2008 say 703 MINI Clubman models have been sold already!

Although the February total of 3,415 cars is not a particularly great month … see the MINI sales figures page for details.

Not a particularly great month? I’m looking at your chart and its higher than 75-80% of the months on the chart. What would make it particularly great?

Look at most of last year - since the R56 was introduced, with more efficient manufacture, sales have often exceeded 4000.
Many of the 700 Clubmans sold would have been special, pre-delivery cars - so I’d have expected that number basically on top of a normal month, for a total of 4,000-4,500!
Maybe people were waiting to see the Clubman before ordering either an R56 or R55 … in which case we should see the number increase again in April onwards.

But to put this in perspective, MINI was nevertheless one of the few bright spots for BMW: http://www.northamericanmotoring.com/forums/showthread.php?p=2076498#post2076498

But Ian, your assumption is that Clubman sales would not replace any coupe sales. Do you really believe that?

    For the first month, yes

How would the first month be different than subsequent months?
