The DPSM user guide

After installing the DPSM in GPMINI and being ever more impressed by its sound quality (I didn’t really believe the “burn-in” claims but either it does improve over the first few hours - or you get used to it!), I’ve scanned the user guide pages for anyone interested.
Introduction, surround sound, features
Burn-in, hearing damage, reliability
Safety circuits (over-temperature, overload, soft clipping)
Amplifier specs and audio plot
Speaker specs

Unlike the mysterious Harman Kardon system, impossible to find specs on it, the DPSM user guide includes some detailed specs (click either for bigger):

Of course, listening is the best test … I’m starting to think that subs aren’t needed …

Most speakers do take some time to “loosen up” and attain their best sound…you could call it burn in too.

I’m confused about the graphs. The first line is “Frequency response of DPSM”, and the second line is “Comparative frequency response of stereo system”. I’m assuming these are measurements from a microphone? What exactly is being compared in the second line?

As you say I think it was an in-car recording test of some freqency swept reference, pre- and post- DPSM. Presumably part of some sort of “sign-off” process when Audio Mobil completed the DPSM development.

Ah, I see now. At first I thought it was an individual response measurement for each unit they ship (which is done with some high end stereo equipment). In that case the second line wouldn’t have made sense. So this is only a representative measurement, compared with the stock system.
