UPCOMING: Another lap of Plymouth County

A few years ago Dave Newman from NEMO planned a MINI/Mini drive around his home area - starting with breakfast at Plane Jane’s Restaurant, and finishing with lunch at Dave’s Diner (food to start and finish, always a great way to organize a MINI drive!)

Sadly very few cars showed up - only four in total - but Dave is planning to repeat the run and hopefully get loads more MINIs & Minis this time! Details:
Calling all NEMO members and Mini or MINI owners - the second “One Lap of Plymouth County” event is coming on Sunday, March 18, 2007. Reserve the date! Please meet at Plymouth Airport, “Gate 2″, which is the main entrance, South Meadow Road, Plymouth, MA, at 8:30 am. Yes, it’s early, but in order to get a seat at this popular breakfast restaurant, we need to be there early. Park with the Minis out front - the basic format is similar to the last time that was loved by all - starting with an 8:30 breakfast at Plane Jane’s. A drive on some twisty scenic roads to a special seaside location, a photo session, then another scenic and interesting drive to another restaurant for a snack or ice cream before your ride home. Open to any classic Mini or new MINI - invite your friends and open to NEMO and non-NEMO members also! We know it is EARLY, but it’s worth it. Complete route directions will be given out at the start of the drive. The end of the drive will be in the Middleboro area, for lunch or desert if you desire. Anyone who went on the last one - in 2003, thought it was spectacular. In case of bad weather or snow - use your own judgement. We have an “overflow” restaurant accross the street from Plane Jane’s if we fill the place - so don’t let that stop you from coming! Contact Dave Newman if you have questions.

Something I forgot to mention about Plane Jane’s Restaurant: It is located on the second floor of the building and there are steps, no elevator. The alternate restaurant across the street has ground floor access, just in case anyone attending the event cannot negotiate the stairs. The airport restaurant has been around way before the ADA laws - and the planned replacement building (coming in the next few years) will be fully ADA compliant. I’ll have to take that into account the next event I plan, sorry.

Just a few weeks remain before the second One Lap of Plymouth County event! Of course, I am testing the food at Plane Jane’s each Sunday to insure we have consistant quality. :-) Hope some of you reading Ian’s blog can attend. Cheers mates!

It’s almost here folks! The route is twisty with ups and downs and even two roundabouts! (keep right mates) Jane is putting on extra staff and the airport manager has a special area for the Mini’s to park! Classic Mini or modern MINI both invited! It was 50/50 last time. Weather looks to be sunny with scattered clouds, but who knows! If you need directions, either Mapquest the building across the street, 253 South Meadow Road, Plymouth, MA or follow the “airport” signs off of Exit 6 west from Route 3 or come in via Route 58 and follow airport signs south of Carver centre. Cheers Mates and see you there!
