November 3, 2005:

Keith needs you!

I have been told that response so far has been very poor for the upcoming Care For Keith Gymkana organized by MINI Peabody … Why?!
You will remember that Keith suffered a back injury in the summer; although he is now out of hospital and back home, his needs remain great.

Before his accident Keith worked at MINI Peabody - some readers bought their MINI from him - and now the dealership has organized this massive event both to help Keith and to provide entertainment for MINI owners. But it only works if people sign up!

I drove by the huge new facility yesterday - there is ample room for hundreds of MINIs and that is what we want:

People have been asking for an event to support Keith since his accident, and now we have one - let’s make it a big one! It’s not too late in the year, so read about it and send an email to Martin to sign up. Don’t leave GBMINI as the only car there in two weeks time …

    Ian,

What have MoP done to promote the event..? I know you have posted a couple of times in the mini2 forum, but MoP shouldn’t be relying on you. They have contact info for all their customers don’t they..? I wouldn’t have minded getting an unsolicited email or phone call for something such as this.
Also, it’s short notice… I know it’s been hinted at for a while and they are probably trying to get something done before the weather turns really bad, but people might not be available at 2 weeks notice. They are hoping for a big event, and I hope they get it. I’ll sign up and gladly donate the $50 to Keith, but I’m not sure I’ll actually make the event because we’ve got visitors in town (yes, again!).

Hmmm… look at that. 20 min after I posted this (and signed up) a PDF promotional email..!
    Good idea..! :)
More people will sign up once more people know about it. As much as we regulars think we’re ‘the MINI crowd’ it must be a small percentage of MoP’s customers who regularly look at bulletin boards or blogs…

yeah, I agree.. MoP relies too heavily on Ian for promo.. I even asked them when I was there a couple of weeks ago if they planned on putting out something on Mini2.com or something the official response was “nah, once Ian gets word of it, he’ll let everyone know”.. kinda unfair to Ian don’t ya think?.. wouldn’t cost that much for MoP to get that little Rolodex of theirs out and do some mailings to people that have bought cars from there.. Ian, if there is a small showing, don’t take it personally, if MoP really wanted to promote this they have the capacity and resources to do so, I assure you, not to mention you’re not neccessarily in contact with every single person that ever dealt with Keith. They have every customer’s address somewhere, probably their phone numbers as well, wouldn’t hurt to give them a ring or something, especially since every time I go down there the girls behind the counter are either reading, doing their nails or what-not.. LOL

Wow, That sure isn’t the MOP I saw when I bought my daughter’s MINI a few months ago…WOW!

I hadn’t read the post……Wow Ian if I could be there I sure would but a 3 day drive might be a little extreme. Seems MOP is the culprit here as stated above. I’ll send some money for the lad.

    rb,
That’s not MoP (although they have had their lot resurfaced). That’s the new BMW of Peabody dealership that’s on Centennial Drive. It’s close to HMS Motorsport, so I wonder if Joe Marco persuaded them to move there..! ;)

The new BMW service center has at least 5 times as much parking space as MINI Peabody - necessary if we get the turnout hoped for, as well of course as the space needed for driving.

The only use MINI makes of this facility (so far, at least) is their wheel alignment machine.

Received this emailed PDF file from MINI Peabody tonight …

Unfortunately, I’m flying out that AM for Wash DC (biz trip)…and I’m missing the Nov 5th soiree too (daughter soccer game). Have fun for a great cause.
