After reading all you have gone through, and you an electronics kinda guy, I’m happy with my Dension ICE-Link iPod gadget. Not as grand as your stuff but with my run flats and the noise they make it’s fine.

I wonder if fiber-glass would have been better? Bigger box certainly, but maybe the wood box will have a better “tone”?!
