It's a BMW thing! My '00 328i (with the Steptronic fitted) does the same thing; same timeframe also: 3 - 5 minutes. Obviously, BMW found a really good deal on capacitors!

No glitch. It's on mine too. Freaked me out enough that I at first kept going out to make sure it had in fact turned off.

Oh and Josh, my MCSa hates D, it much prefers SD (or manual, but that can be WAY to tempting to put it over 4500 rpms right now with only 450 miles.....gotta put some more on this weekend).

It is simply complaining about being in P...GBMINI prefers to be in D! :)

Perhaps it is done to be sure you notice it, in case you left it in something other than park.

Or more likely it is powered not by the body module but the engine module or something that receives power for 5 minutes. I think I've heard of other items staying powered for that long as well.

My august built 05 S was in the garage one evening with all lights out in the garage. When walking past I noticed the MFSW lights in buttons were on. Everthing else was off. I put in key and turned on head lamps, then shut off. They went all out. I know theres something of a glitch there. Think its happened twice now. Other than that, it has run flawlessly.
